Traffic modelling algorithms

SIMETRA has opened a separate R&D department since 2017. Its main task is to study the best global practices and develop our own algorithms for modelling traffic flows.

SIMETRA is already creating high-level domestic software products to replace foreign solutions. The results of current research are applied in new versions of our in-house developed software - the RITM³ integration platform.

Today, the main focus of research is studying car-following dynamics on the basis of the highD dataset.

At the moment, the most exciting models for research are regime selection models based on machine learning techniques and their combination with the classical econometric approach, algorithms for finding hybrid transport equilibrium, and methods for calibrating agent-based models using data from detectors.

Promising studies

The current study explores approaches to micro-model calibration using vehicle trajectory data, the effects associated with spatial anticipation, and different types of variability in driver behavior.

Subject of research

SIMETRA often attends Russian and international research conferences like the Transportation Research Board (TRB) and Transport Planning and Modelling (TPM) to present the recent progress in our research work.
